Police Report: No particular trends. 1 animal cruelty, dog left in car. 20 assaults, most DV. 2 Res burglaries. 42 total crimes reported.

Strawberry festival Sat/Sun. Bad traffic on West End of town. Remote parking: govt center, mall. Beach parking lot.

Tip a Cop on May 28, 11-1pm. Finney’s. Officers will serve your lunch. Had first meeting for Santa Paula Branch Line. Some tech diff. on the roll out, unanswered questions. Design will be a long process.

District 4 Council Member — Dr. Jeanette Sanchez-Palacios – reiterating comments she made at S. Paula

Jose Flores Community Center, May 23, 11168 Violetta St. Saticoy 6-8. Branch Line rails with trails project. Safety and mobility, reduce miles traveled; greenhouse gas reduction goals. May is bike safety month. Update on X Games coming soon, June 28-30. Friday/Saturday Activities 10-10, Sunday 9-4:30. Community partnerships sponsoring activities for attendees.

District 5 Council Member — Bill McReynolds — attended eastside neighborhood greenway to connect Huntzinger park and community park. Pollinator Palooza on Saturday. Junk drop off event. City has a brand new podcast.

Mike Johnson — Tuesday, May 21 council will decide on future of main street, open or not. Looking for new city attorney. Probably not until September or October. Survey for land use went out. Mr. Ayub will discuss. Will link his web page in the chat for his calendar of events. Next May 20th, will be at Peet’s Coffee 2pm. It’s been a pleasure to serve, but he will not be running next time, but will stay involved.

Bill Ayub — this is Police Week, National Police Memorial Day was weds to recognize officers fallen in the line of duty, since the 60s. building safety month. new hire at the City – Chief Building Official, Tim Fisk, a very service oriented and focused on improving processes. The city has been undergoing a General Plan Update over 3 years. Land use is the most contentious. Feedback was asked from the community, but the map distributed was a poor product. It is being fixed and will be reissued. Ventura Voices podcast series was launched. Intent to communicate with the public, hear from a variety of city officials. One more way to get the word out on what is happening with the city.

Sara — Stephanie Avila was recognized for her activities. Motorcycle safety month.

Transportation Meeting in Council Chambers. Transportation commission has bus schedules.

HAWK traffic signal at Rameli and Telephone.

Surfer’s Point retreat survey. Firefighters will do their 9/11 stair climb on 9/7. Taking volunteers.

Planning workshop: June 20, BVMH Estates. Starts at 6:30. How does our community feel about certain topics. We want to consolidate the input received and communicate with the City. Westside has a vision plan, which has helped them to realize it. Several people have expressed interest. Sheila Lowe and Marina Porter have helped with planning. Next week Sara will answer questions. Volunteers needed to moderate at 9 tables on different topics. Trying to make a registration form on the website.

Kellye – some of the returning topics, would be helpful to have someone from city staff who are prepared to answer questions.

Marina has spoken to people who helped with the Westside statement and will reach out to see who is available to come. Rachel Diamond, comm. devel. Director would be a terrific person to have. She has reached out to Saticoy people, too. Ashley Pope will put a notice for us on the Chamber site.

Mr. Romes — having city reps attend from the beginning helps interactive dialogue.

Dr. Palacio — promo info will be dispersed to this group so we can hand them out.

Sara — looking for social media help.

Sheila — we need to fundraise.

Dean — Pollinator Palooza: great turnout last year. Crafts, games, parade of kids in costumes, and more. Sat. 10-2. We will have a puppet show. Some of the drama dept at Buena High are helping. Barranca Vista Park on Ralston. 7050 Ralston St.

New Business — no new business

Guest Speaker — Mackenzie Douglass — Emergency Evacuation Plan. High points of a draft plan. Goal to get finalized to council in June. Lack of pre-planning in 2017 haunted people who are involved now. climate change makes these events more frequent. We want to save lives. Scope involved all hazards approach for mass evacuations. Also helps those working in the emergency center. Streamlines the evacuation process. A community survey was distributed, asking residents about past experiences. Apprx 1000 responses, which influenced the evac plan. Wide range of evac scenarios.

Demographics: total residents 109,000. 8.7% under 65 have a disability. 19.3% is 65+. 9.6% below poverty line.

Nearly 1 in 5 are over 65, many not in good shape.

Major quake, entire city might need to be evacuated.

Sheltering requirements – County Human Services Agency has nominal responsibility.

They have a temp evac point at Ventura College

City and schools.

Evac Map created. Broken into 15 zones.

After evac from danger area, Shelter Locations can host significant numbers, provide for needs. Assembly Points are a collection point for evacuees who will be transported to a safe area further away.

Sara asked about citywide siren – Mack would like to see funding for that.

Ann P. – what about pets? Mack: 2006 law provides for co-sheltering with pets.

Dean K. – is there a hazmat map? Mack: we do have a map of hazardous material placed in the city.

Sara O. – what are the plans for senior parks and veterans facility. Mack: Vets homes are required to have their own evac plans. A HOA or other who wants to have their own plan can run it past him. Draft versions of the map are available online. Soon, put in your address and it will show routes.

Community Discussion

Sara: There aren’t many restaurants/coffee shops to get together.

Ann: lives around agriculture – is there anywhere to find out what is being sprayed and when? Mack: county air pollution control district. And agriculture commission handles this. Mike will check into it and report back.
